Model Assimilation

A data assimilation was done across the West on January 30. Up to 6 inches of water was added in higher elevations of the Cascades and Sierra Nevada due to over-melt and under-production of snowfall. Western Montana, northern Idaho, and eastern Oregon had up to four inches of water added to higher elevations. 1/4 to one inch of water was removed from lower elevations in southern Idaho, western Wyoming, and central Utah where the model underestimated snow melt. Adjustments in eastern Nevada were mainly additions of one inch of water at higher elevations.

NOHRSC Airborne Snow Survey Program

The Airborne program has no scheduled flights in this region for the week of January 30, 2012.
