Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) Flood Inundation Mapping is a

product from the National Water Center derived from Copernicus Sentinel-1 SAR imagery. Sentinel-1 SAR scenes are compared with images acquired during non-flooding periods and change detection algorithms are employed to detect flood water. Sentinel-1 SAR cannot penetrate tree canopies, so riparian forests will tend to hide flood waters, giving the Flood Inundation Mapping a patchwork-quilt appearance.
